The world often feels like it is caught in cycles of great change—moments where the old makes way for the new, where the familiar shifts into something we struggle to recognise. These times of upheaval may leave us questioning our own place in the broader story, longing for guidance as we navigate uncharted waters.
It’s not uncommon for such periods to be marked by ceremonies of transition. These are the moments when a figure steps forward, carrying the mantle of leadership, chosen to guide us into a new chapter. Whether you’re a witness, an active participant, or even a reluctant observer, these transitions stir something deep within us. They call us to reflect on our shared humanity and the ways in which power, both seen and unseen, weaves through our lives.
Shamanically speaking, every inauguration—whether of a leader, an era, or even an idea—is a ritual. It is the culmination of energy that has been building over time, a turning of the wheel. The leader, like the shaman, carries the collective hopes, fears, and expectations of the people. But while shamans journey to seek healing and balance, leaders sometimes become mirrors, reflecting back the shadows we must face as a community.
On such days, we can turn to the ancient wisdom of the elements to guide us.
Earth reminds us to stay grounded. Amid the noise and spectacle, what truths hold steady for you? What values are the bedrock of your being?
Air urges us to breathe deeply, to let go of fear and open ourselves to the winds of change. What new ideas are being carried to you on this breeze?
Fire calls us to awaken our passion and courage. What part of your spirit needs to ignite to bring clarity and purpose?
Water flows as a reminder of adaptability and emotional resilience. How can you move with the current rather than resist its force?
As shamans know, every transition comes with its own tests. A leader stepping into their role may reveal not only their own strengths and flaws but also those of the collective they represent. It is a dance of duality—creation and destruction, light and shadow, power and responsibility.
For those of us witnessing such moments, the work is to remain aware. To hold space for possibility while staying anchored in integrity. Perhaps the greatest service we can offer during times like these is to seek balance within ourselves. For when the world feels uncertain, our own harmony becomes a beacon.
So as we stand at the threshold of another age, let us remember that power is not confined to grand stages or lofty titles. True power lies within each of us—in our choices, our connections, and the stories we carry forward.
The wheel turns, as it always does. The question is: How will you step into the new cycle? Our Shamanic Teacher Training goes into more detail of chaos cycles. Learn more here.
