We may feel that our known ancestors are a disgrace and that the less we have to do with them the better. This may relate to unhealthy family patterns such as shame, violence, low esteem etc. It can also relate to the tribe or culture/country as a whole. For example the Holocaust in Germany and losing the war. This has left deep seated wounds in the soul and psyche of the German people that is still (in my opinion) apparent today. If you feel that you have inherited an ancestral legacy of guilt, shame, or anger for example, it is still possible to honour your ancestors without repeating their patterns in your life. Love them for themselves and not their deed, which they likely inherited from their ancestors. We are not obliged to carry our ancestor’s burdens, but we owe it to our descendants to ensure that these are not passed on. We learn more about this on our Shamanic Practitioner Training here.
